The Spanish stock market trades 36.9 billion euros in April, up 28% yoy

MONTHLY TRADING STATEMENTS FOR BME’S MARKETS
- Cash traded in Equities in the first four months of 2022 grows 20.1% yoy
- New issues in the Fixed Income market in April reached 38.5 billion euros, up 10.2% yoy
- Trading in IBEX 35 futures contracts increased 18.2% in the first four months of the year
The Spanish Stock Exchange traded 36.9 million euros in Equities in April, 27.9% more than in the same month of 2021 and 15.9% less than the previous month. The number of trades in April was 3.2 million, 13.6% less than in April 2021 and 40.4% lower than in March 2022.
BME's market share in Spanish equities stood at 71.82%. The average spread in this month was 6.54 basis points at the first price level (10.0% better than the next trading venue) and 8.65 basis points with order book depth of 25,000 euros (36.7% better), according to an independent report by LiquidMetrix, available here: https://www.bmerv.es/ing/Miembros/MIFID_II.aspx. All figures include both transparent order book (LIT) trading – including auctions – and non-transparent (dark) off-book trading.
The volume traded in April in the Fixed Income markets reached 8.7 billion euros, 5.4% less than in March. New issues, including Public Debt and Private Fixed Income issues, amounted to 38.5 billion euros, down 10.7% from March and up 10.2% from the same month the previous year.
The outstanding balance in April stood at 1.75 trillion euros, up 1.9% so far this year and up 3.4% from April 2021.
The Financial Derivatives market traded 1.7 million contracts in April, representing a notional amount of 37.6 billion euros.
In the first four months of the year trading increased by 18.2% in IBEX 35 Futures, 17.6% in Mini IBEX Futures and 23.8% in Stock Futures. In Option contracts, in April there was an 87.3% increase in trading in Mini IBEX Options and a 40.1% increase in Stock Options, both year on year.
The open interest grew by 8.6% compared to March in Mini IBEX Options contracts and by 8.7% in Stock Options contracts.
